Class Salad Mixing Day
A "Class Act" Masterpiece!

Kids, try suggesting to your classroom teachers that you take a field trip to a local farm or Farmer's Market to pick out fresh vegetables to make a healthy salad for the entire class.   The students pick out their veggies from the farm or market and take them back to class.  Before beginning make sure students wash their hands thoroughly & wash all the vegetables really well. Explain to them why this is important. Also make sure if knives are being used or sharp objects that they are carefully supervised by an adult & explain important safety tips using these items with an adult or parent around only and why.  Put cut & washed vegetables into a large enough bowl for the whole class to participate & eat.  This would be the classroom's homemade salad where everyone participates, from picking the veggies to washing them to cutting them (carefully & supervised) and to mixing them in the bowl.  Teachers can explain how the vegetables are grown, what they are, soil, weather & water conditions and how they affect the plants & vegetables growth etc.  Your class could also make the salad dressing
 with simple fresh herbs etc.
Use your imagination!
The class can also participate in a class fruit bowl as well. By picking & adding fruits like blueberries, apples, raspberries, strawberries and more or by adding nuts too. (Walnuts work well.) And after putting their finished fruit bowl into small personal cups for them, add some fun & flavorful whipped cream to top it off and nuts too if students aren't allergic to them.  Keep it fun & exciting & keep students involved in the whole process from beginning to finish.  The finished product is… a Class Act Masterpiece!
