Penguins-A Social Affair
The card read; "A black tie event, dress to impress and don't be
late!"
It was a bitter cold Christmas this year in California's Lake Tahoe
Resort and everyone scurried about for last minute gifts.
Huge snowflakes graced the white sky and children played on the
snow-covered hills with their sleds. Neighbors
were out walking their dogs and there was the spirit of Christmas in the air.
The airports were all snowed in and one particular airline just made it
into the Reno Nevada area from icy Antarctica.
The passengers delayed aboard the Antarctic Flight #P100 were anxious to
get back home.
In the bitter Atlantic region blizzards, darkness, and bone chilling cold
encompass the area. These passengers can be seen huddling together in colonies
along the icy coast in relentless efforts to keep warm and weather the storms.
Fish and squid are their favorite snacks, which they indulge in on the
airplane menu.
Back on the snowy airport roads, horse and buggies were loaded with the
well-dressed passengers and limousines lined up as well to pick them up.
They were quickly driven from the Reno Airport to Lake Tahoe for the
Black Tie Event. Buggies and
limousines dropped them off one by one. With their downy undercoats and
overlapping long black feathers, they looked like they were eloquently dressed
in Tuxedo's.
Handsome as could be and about four feet tall they waddled up the walkway
and into the hotel. The hotel was all decorated for Christmas with ornaments,
garland, beads, lights and one beautiful and tall Christmas tree.
Wrapped shiny packages glittered from under the tree and music filled the
air. Imagine with me if you
will…a room filled with Penguins, yes I said "Penguins."
Big and small all dressed up in Tuxedo's and singing Christmas songs! They sang with beautiful angelic voices as they circled the
chicks (baby Penguins) under that tall Christmas tree.
I sat back and listened to one hundred Penguins singing in unison and
thought to myself; "Penguins, truly a Social Affair!
