Island Fantasy & Frenzy
As the boat sailed for Catalina Island there were several old wooden
crates aboard. It was a long trip
from Newport Beach across the ocean to Catalina but by far the most beautiful
one. The dolphins' dove in and out
of the water next to the bow of our boat like ballerina's dancing on the water.
Seals and sea lions were nestled on the buoys, each one fighting over an
empty seat to lie on in the hot California sun.
Behind us were the loud buzzing sounds of jet skis enjoying the waves
from our boat as they hurled themselves over our wake.
Out in the distance behind us the sandy beaches of Newport Beach were
glimmering like glass crystals in the warm sun.
The wooden crates on board were moving back and forth from the rocking of
our boat on the waves as if they were moving on their own.
Once we docked in Catalina, the crates were lowered to the ground and
just as we were about to open them Mitzi heard a buzzing sound.
We all listened closely and heard nothing but the crashing of the waves
against the boat.
So as we opened the crate ever so carefully, out came a buzzing sound.
Whoosh! "Bubbly
The Bee" flew past ANTie Patti's head.
Then out crawled "Lady The Bug" ever so slowly, and "Cat-T
The Caterpillar" right behind her. And that wasn't all. Christian
opened the next old crate and out fluttered the beautifully golden "Bangkok
The Butterfly" and yes, even "Frederico The Spider" with his long
spiny legs crawled out to see where they were.
But as Christian began to close the lid on the old crate a very tiny
Cricket named "Sedona" peeked out of one of the holes and let himself
out too. I guess "Lido The
Flea" had already jumped out and onto the local cat for a free ride through
town. Christian was so happy to see
all his buggy friends and they were just as glad to see him too.
There was one more crate to open so Christian decided he would let ANTie
Patti open the last one. As ANTie
Patti pried open the last crate out popped a redheaded little girl!
It was Alex! Christians best
friend! Alex smiled and laughed as
she told Christian all about how she rolled back and forth inside the crate from
all the waves and how it rocked her to sleep and when she awoke how happy she
was to see all of us. We got our
towels and things together and gathered up all the bugs and went to explore the
island. Christian said if he were
ever stranded on a deserted island he would want his family, friends, and all
his buggy friends there too.
ANTie Patti and Mitzi sat down for a tall glass of iced tea with lemon.
Christian and Alex had some refreshing grape juice and we shared the
spectacular view of the ocean and boats docked nearby.
All the bugs danced and sang their bug songs, which made the day
complete!
