Snickel Fritz
Raise your hands if you know what a "Snickel Fritz " is!
I don't expect to many of you will raise your hands.
In fact I'd be surprised if anyone has ever seen a Snickel Fritz and if
they have, they probably didn't know what it was.
Snick (for short) is a most unusual character and
quite a sneaky critter if you ever come upon one.
There might be one right behind you and once you turn around he's right
there behind you again!
Sometimes you'll catch one looking over your shoulder as you sit down to
dinner and suddenly he's gone. You
may catch a glimpse of one peeking at you from behind the T.V. set.
Quite possibly there could be a Snickel Fritz hiding quietly under your
car seat or in your desk at school. You
won't find them at night while you sleep because they are fast asleep too.
Early morning daylight awakens these sneaky critters and they are ready
to get into mischief.
A Snickel Fritz loves eggs. Especially
Deviled Eggs! When mom is cooking
eggs for breakfast in the morning, keep an eye out for a Snickel Fritz.
There's bound to be one nearby. If
you have a hard-boiled egg for lunch in your brown lunch bag and you see the bag
wiggling around, you can be sure there is a Snickel Fritz inside.
They are really hard to catch because they are so fast and to actually
see one for more than a few seconds is pretty rare.
Why, I've only seen a Snickel Fritz one time curling up late at night
next to my son. My son had his arm
gently over Snick and they were fast asleep together.
In the morning Snickel Fritz would be gone.
They are friendly critters no doubt, but being sneaky and fast is what
they are known for.
We aren't sure how they arrived here, but stories around campfires late
at night tell of the legends of old pirate ships with stowaways on board.
We are led to believe that the Snickel Fritz was one of those stowaways.
No one really knows for sure how they got here and it still remains a
great mystery.
Nonetheless, Snicks' are here and if you happen to spot one, run and grab
the camera. No one has ever been
able to take a picture of this funny little critter and you just might end up
with the only proof that they really do exist.
My son is much older now but he still asks me to tell him the Snickel
Fritz story. He wants all the
little children in the world to enjoy this enchanting story as much as he
enjoyed it as a child. So next time
your son or daughter asks you what a Snickel Fritz is, you can tell them the
same enchanting story. And if a
Snickel Fritz ever crosses your path, he will bring a smile of joy to your face
and a whole lot of love to your heart!
