To Grandmother's House We Go

Several summers ago ANTie Patti, her son Sonny and her sister Mitzi drove on a long journey from California to Arizona to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  They passed through the beautiful and sizzling hot Palm Springs area with palm trees reaching higher and higher for the warm sun and white sand crystals glistened everywhere.  The sun was setting by the time they reached the Arizona border and all along the way they passed cactus that stood on the side of the road with their arms out as if to welcome them.  The cacti were in bloom this time of year with their beautiful flowers and fruit.

This was the exciting part of their journey because not long after the sun went down in one glorious sunset, they suddenly ran into trouble and out of gas.  But where they ran out of gas is even more of a mystery.  It happened on a dark, dusty road in a so-called town with one run-down, and by the way, non- working gas station.  At least there was a phone booth, one with spider webs everywhere!

When they looked up into the quiet sky they saw the Milky Way, Little and Big Dippers and millions of stars everywhere.  Suddenly they heard a howling from the coyotes in the distance and no sooner had they heard this they all ran back to the car and locked the doors.  When they decided it was safe to go back out, they opened the old phone booth door, wiped the spider webs aside and made their late night stranded on the desert road phone call for help.  They called their brother Randy and he asked suspiciously where they were and right then they saw a sign that said "Nowhere Arizona."  Which is exactly where they were!

Randy thought at first that they were joking about their car breaking down, but once they said they were stuck somewhere in Nowhere he knew they needed help.  Randy hopped in his Dodge Ram charger and off he went to rescue his nephew and two sisters.  I mean really, it is a good story and yes a true one for the most part.  But being the understanding brother that he was, he came quickly and rescued them.

Mitzi, ANTie Patti and Sonny turned back to look at Nowhere Arizona and it looked as if the cactus were waving them good-bye.  They had one arm up in the air and one arm out as if to point the way to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  So off into the night they went on the last part of their journey.  Grandma and Grandpa were so glad to see them and they told them their story… If you're ever passing through Arizona look for Nowhere, it's out there somewhere!
