What does it take to remember
what all this fighting is for.
We tarnish the minds of many,
a sad attempt to even the score.
Alone they stand in the shadows,
waiting for dawn's early light.
They gather together for battle,
united they're ready to fight.
With guns they hold you captive,
with blood stained hands
they wipe the tears
from their eyes.
All in the memory of freedom,
how many have given their lives.
The candles are lit in the churches,
we remember the ones who have died.
All in the memory of freedom,
and the scars left by many who tried.
Like a puzzle you pick up the pieces
and arrange them to fit side by side.
But there's always one piece missing.
You run but there's nowhere to hide.
The stones bearing names of the soldiers'
the images lie etched in my mind.
The flags remind us of freedom,
our passion for all of mankind.
